But just when they were almost close to Kingston Groups…
“Take a turn to the left,” Anders instructed. Veil was a bit hesitant, but then she had no say, she simply did as she was told.
She drove down a serene road and just when she was closing up at a small Spanish restaurant, Anders asked her to stop the car.
Veil hurried out and opened the door for him and he pulled out of the vehicle carefully. Finally being out of the confinement of the small car, Veil could finally breathe and slowly, she found herself regaining what was lost- her composure.
“Mr. Rodriguez…”
“I didn’t have breakfast before leaving home. I need you to read me the rest of my schedule over a plate of meals.”
Veil noticed the emphasis on the first three words of the second sentence and a picture flashed in her mind. She mentally berated herself for thinking the way she just did.
“Sure!” She offered him a smile, hoping against hope that it didn’t look as forced as it was. Then they walked inside.
“Hello, Mr. Rodriguez…” A voice called out excitedly as soon as they walked in.
And when Veil turned around to see who the person was, she saw an advanced woman approaching. She looked at Anders to see his reaction, but his face was as stoic as she was beginning to get used to.
“Mrs. Grant.” He just said curtly, then went ahead to place his order. “I’ll have the usual.”
“Hello!” Veil smiled at the woman when she locked eyes briefly with her.
The old lady smiled back at her, gently putting down a menu in front of her. “What would you have dear?” She asked. It was the first time Anders was bringing anyone here, so she was extra sweet towards Veil. Anders had never been serious with any women, so for all she knew, this was the start of something.
“Uh! Nothing, thank You. I had breakfast before leaving home.” She couldn’t imagine eating in front of Anders, so she lied, despite how hungry she was feeling. She’d just have to use the cafeteria, or order something by the time they must have returned to the office, and eat in the comfort of her own space.
“She’ll have what I’m having,” Anders said, browsing through his phone indifferently.
Veil looked up at him, she wanted to retort, but, Anders didn’t give her a chance to. “That would be all, Mrs. Grant.”
The old lady bowed and left to get his order.
“What’s my schedule for the rest of the day?”NôvelDrama.Org © content.
“Uhmm…” Veil said, scampering through her bag for her iPad. When she fetched it, she unlocked it. “There’s a meeting over dinner with the chairman of Reese Enterprise. At 2:30 PM you’d be meeting with all heads of department over the launching of the new product. Your conference call with the board of directors comes at 3:30 PM. You’d close off the day with…
While Veil read his schedule, Anders found himself reclining on his seat, his whole attention fixated on Veil’s lips. He could feel every one of his nerves reacting involuntarily to her. Even when Mrs. Grant returned with their order, he still had his eyes locked on her.
“Thank you, Mrs. Grant,” Veil said, smiling at the old lady. When she looked up from the plate of eye catchy food in front of her, she met Anders’ serious gaze. Taken aback, she felt her heart skip, then start to beat rapidly. She couldn’t help but wonder why he was staring at her in such a manner. She was long done reading his schedule, so why was he still staring?
“That-that’s all.” She said with a slightly shaky voice as if to remind him that he still had his attention on her. And it seemed to work, because he looked away from her, casually picking up his fork from the plate in front of him. He rolled in some food and gradually lifted the fork to his lips. His eyes, slightly flirtatious, locked unto Veil’s and without averting his gaze, he kissed the spoon so slow that Veil’s lips parted on their own. And only then did he look away. He had succeeded in putting her in the condition he wanted.
“You could stare less and eat more, there’s a lot of things to be done in the office.” His deep voice resonated in Veil’s ears, jolting her back to reality.
“Oh dear, what was that?” Veil swallowed hard, mentally berating herself for that small foolishness earlier. How could she look at her boss in such a way? How could she let something as simple as a man’s eating draw her attention so much? This was so embarrassing.
But, she had to admit it, there was something in the way he had kissed that spoon, and that too with his eyes fixed on her like it was an action done deliberately to do just that to her.
