Chapter 3: laugh, Bonnie, laugh!
Bonnie cried severely after she was taken back to the prison. Her mother’s effort to calm her down went in vain.
She couldn’t quite comprehend what Xavier told her. It was so impossible to do.
And she wouldn’t let Xavier do so much to her father. She wouldn’t let the world see him as a traitor when in reality, he had done nothing wrong.
But if she could find a way out.
She wiped off the tears on her face and walked to her father, “Dad, can you tell me how it all happened?”
Brook looked up at her, ” There’s no point,” he looked away again, ” I’m just regretful. I should never have put you and your mother in such a position.”
Bonnie smiled, ” It’s ok dad but please, tell me.”Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
Brook sighed and looked up at her again, “Well, I got a piece of information that Xavier’s mate would pass our territory on her way back to Xavier’s palace. The unusual note stated that she would be harmed. And because she’s on our territory, Xavier would hold us responsible,” he sighed again and looked away.
“I feared it would happen. Xavier and I haven’t been in a good relationship. I knew it would worsen the situation. So, I agreed to follow the note. The time Gwen would get to us was also stated in the note. But when I got there, lots of werewolves had already been killed and there was no trace of Gwen. So, we returned home.”
Bonnie’s heart ached, ” That means the note deceived you. Do you still have the note with you?”
Brook dipped his left hand into his side pocket and brought out a small piece of paper. He stretched it out, “I’ve always kept it on me every time after the incident because I knew Xavier would be here.”
Bonnie collected the note and perused it. She looked at her father again but this time with determination, “I promise to get you and Mom here. And I will also clear the charges against you.”
Brook sighed and looked away, he has lost hope in living.
But Bonnie seemed determined.
While she pretended to be Gwen, she would also find Gwen and bring the culprit to justice.
Her father only needed to be patient with her.
The next morning, the guards came to take Bonnie away. And the next thing Brook and her wife heard was that she had been killed.
Brook was given a month to tell Xavier where he kept Gwen or he would kill his wife too.
Annie cried for days until there were no more tears left. At that moment, she awaited death. She had nothing left to protect again.
Meanwhile, Bonnie stayed in the room crying too. Lots of things were troubling her. She didn’t want to start thinking of how she would be forced to tell lies against her parents.
Fortunately, Gwen’s parents didn’t come that morning. They would come in five days with Alpha Rowan for a home warming party.
The knob turned, startling Gwen for a while and Elixir sauntered inside the room. Elixir was the maid serving her. She also had Tina that do come in every afternoon to teach her the ways of Gwen.
Bonnie turned to look at her, her face damped with tears. She wouldn’t stop crying, she couldn’t. She had been living as Gwen for two days now and she wondered how well her parents were currently.
“Mistress,” she said and bowed slightly, “You need to get dressed,” she walked nearer and opened the wardrobe. She selected two dresses, “I know you love blue but you like wearing this dress too. Which one will you go for today?”
Bonnie sucked in breath and wiped off the tears from her face, “What’s happening today?”
Elixir smiled, “You are going on a hunt with Alpha Xavier,” she said excitedly.
Bonnie sighed. She wondered why she looked so excited when she wasn’t. She doesn’t even want to see Xavier forever.
Elixir watched her for a while and a frown appeared on her face. She dropped the clothes on the bed and walked to the door. She opened it and tucked out her head out for a while.
She closed the door again and unturned the keys before she walked towards Bonnie.
She sat Bonnie down on the bed, with her, “I know how you feel but you have to make this work.”
Bonnie raised a confused brow, “What are you talking about?’
Elixir smiled, ” I know you aren’t my first mistress. You are Bonnie and not Gwen. But well, sometimes we do meet ourselves in situations that can’t be helped.”
Bonnie’s mouth went open in agape and her eyes went gobsmacked, ” How did you know?”
She smoothed her hair slightly, “I know lots of things. I will just tell you to stay calm and get yourself together. Crying will solve nothing, it will only make you feel more miserable. You are ugly whenever you cry.”
For the first time after a long time, Bonnie lets out a deep heartwarming laugh, “Thank you.”
Elixir stood and lets out another smile, “I’m sure you can clear this mess. All you need to return to your life is Gwen. And I’m sure she’s out somewhere if only we can get to her, “She walked back to the door and unturned the key again.
“I planned to find her, will you help me?”
“Will you dress now?” She walked back to Bonnie, ignoring her question. She picked the two dresses from the bed.
Bonnie looked at the two clothes, “The blue looks good,” she smiled and looked to meet Elixir in the eyes, “Will you help me?”
Elixir sighed and nodded slowly, “I will.”
Bonnie snatched the blue dress from her, “I should get dressed then.”
Bonnie was led outside by four more maids aside from Elixir. Elixir was a maid that Xavier gave to Gwen along with her wedding package.
And though, Elixir was just like other maids, yet she seemed to know Gwen more than even Xavier could tell.
Bonnie walked to Xavier. She bent her head slightly but Xavier took her hand and whirled her closer to his chest, making Bonnie’s heart stop a beat.
Xavier moved his mouth to her ear, “Act well, they are watching,” he warned sternly.
Bonnie forced her eyes around her, at the werewolves looking at them, watching them as if they were looking for fault.
Xavier kissed her forehead before pulling back, “Can we leave now?”
Unable to retrieve her voice because of the kiss, Bonnie nodded instead.
Xavier smiled and stretched his hand to her, which she accepted immediately with a smile too.
Riding the horse with your partner shows how much you guys love each other.
Werewolves are strong and faster. They could run so fast with their legs. And riding can be slowed.
They ride for a while with no words. The maids and servants were coming behind them slowly, giving them the space they demanded.
“Laugh,” Xavier whispered suddenly.
Bonnie looked at him, unsure of what he meant.
Xavier looked at her, the dark lines were still on his face. Bonnie needed no one to tell her he hates her so very much, “Gwen laughs a lot. If you keep frowning, you will force Rowan to think I did something bad to you.”
You did something bad to me, Bonnie wanted to say but she bit it back in and look away, “Alright,” she said instead.
Xavier looked away again, “You will get ready for tonight. I will spend the night in your room. We must spark rumors and not let anyone think something has gone wrong.”
Bonnie blushed annoyingly.
A servant ran to Xavier, ” Master, it’s a deer.”
Xavier smiled. He set the arrow in the bow and extended towards the deer.
Bonnie looked back at him, at how his muscles contract, at his self acknowledgment. Undeniably, Xavier was mighty.
The arrow went deep into the deer’s head.
Everyone jubilated and Bonnie couldn’t help but smile secretly.
Xavier turned to Bonnie suddenly and caught her smiling at him. He smiled too and Bonnie felt her heart stop for a moment, “Will you come here?” The smile on his face was encouraging but she feared the hatred beneath it.
Bonnie looked at the servants staring up at her with a wide smile on their faces. She looked back at Xavier and nodded slowly.
Xavier got down swiftly and walked to Bonnie. He climbed on the horse behind her, “Do you remember the first time we meant?” Xavier said dreamily and his hands brushed Bonnie. The place at which he touched burned softly, “You were riding!” He chuckled softly and kicked the horse so that it moved faster.
They rode for a while until there was no one in sight.
Xavier stopped the horse suddenly and got down as if he couldn’t wait to get away from her. As if their skin touching was poisonous to him.
He lets Bonnie get down nevertheless before he turned away from her.
“I told you to laugh, Bonnie, laugh!” His frustration rang in his voice. The calm expression he held the other time was gone only to be replaced with a dark one.
Bonnie shivered suddenly and looked away as she was scared of meeting his face. Xavier scares her seriously, everything about him scares her.
Bonnie couldn’t wait to go back to her room. She would rather be locked up than stay with Xavier.
Xavier was suddenly standing so close to her, only a breath away, “Do I look like a joke to you?”
Bonnie couldn’t breathe properly. It wasn’t because of his hard tone this time, it was because of his closeness.
For a reason unknown to her, his closeness was affecting her in a way she couldn’t even describe.
“Do you_,” Xavier started again but stopped suddenly and his lips were suddenly touching hers.
Bonnie felt the rush of adrenaline, the instant heat building up in her. Nevertheless, she made to withdraw away from him but his arms were suddenly behind her, pulling her so close to his chest as he deepen the kiss.
