Chapter 13
Distraught. That’s how Emerald felt as she continued searching for her nanny. She didn’t want to stop looking for Lucy and delayed her plan to leave her husband. In the mansion, she fulfilled her duties even though she thought she had no reason to do it anymore since her nanny was nowhere to be found. But she didn’t want to anger Jace either.
In the morning, she would prepare breakfast for him and serve him. Even after coming back from work, Emerald never failed to do what she needed to do. One day, young Morgan slumped on the couch, feeling tired, thinking about herself and her situation. ‘Is this still okay? Don’t I value myself that I let Jace do this to me? How long will I let him hurt me?’ she asked herself.
Emerald went to her room and called her friend. She wants to finalize her plan and leave Jace for good. “Are you sure about this?” Creep asked.
“Yes, I don’t think he would care if I just disappeared,” Emerald replied. Still, I want to make sure that he won’t be able to find me, so I want you to erase everything that may lead to me and my whereabouts.”
“Why not come to me instead?” Creep asked.
“What do you mean?” Emerald asked, confused.
“Let’s do business together.”
“What kind of business?”
What else? Something we’re good at.”
“Games?”
“Yes,” Creep replied. Emerald thinks for a moment. Instead of going somewhere, she doesn’t know what might happen to her. She realized that what Creep was offering her was a lot better. She knew how to develop games and was good at it. She was never given a chance to show her skills because of her family, who never gave her a chance to grow. Even after marrying Jace, he confined her to household chores as her parents did.
After giving some thought, Emerald agreed. They talk about the plan and when they will execute it before they end their video call. ‘Yes, this might be for good. I had to think in my best interest if I wanted to grow as a person. Enough is enough. I love Jace, but it’s not bad to love myself, right? After all, he was the one who took my feelings for granted.’ she told herself.
Emerald will leave the mansion on their first anniversary since she thought Jace would never remember it. It’s in two days, so she has decided to prepare everything. She started to pack the things she had brought when she moved in, thinking she didn’t want anything that might remind her of Jace and planning on forgetting him.

“Hi, son.” Jessica greeted before she kissed Jace on his cheek.
“How’s Jack?” he asked,
“In his bedroom. Have you eaten?”
“Yeah, I stopped by a restaurant on my way here.”
“Alright, your dad is in our bedroom. He just gets something.” Jessica replied. “What brought you here?”
“Nothing, I just want to invite you for dinner in two days.” young Higginson replied, making his mother crease her forehead.
“Did something happen? Is there some good news in the company that we need to celebrate?” Jessica asked excitedly.
“No, it’s nothing like that. You know, I miss my brother, and I’m just happy that he’s doing okay. You could say that I want to celebrate his recovery.” Jace replied. Jessica smiled and hugged her son. She knew how close her sons were to each other, and she also knew how devastated her younger son was after what happened to Jack.
“I’m glad that your brother is better now. Thanks to Eunice because she didn’t give up on him no matter how much Jack pushed her away.”
“She deserves the bonus she received,” Jace replied, smiling. “Do you think Jack can return to work now?”
“I don’t think so, son. His doctor said he needs to be checked monthly, especially his legs. He still undergoes therapy every week as well.”
“Alright.”
“Don’t worry, he’ll get better soon. I know how much you want to concentrate on your company, but please, hold on a little longer.”
“It’s fine, Mom. I can still manage, and I know that when Jack gets better, he will be the one who asks us to let him get back to work,” Jace said with a smile.
“You know your brother too well.”
“Of course.”
Jace stayed with his parents until dinner and went straight to his bedroom when he arrived at his mansion. He wanted to see Emerald but stopped himself because of his plan.
Young Higginson went to his office the following day and found Emerose waiting for him. “Hi,” she said, smiling. She got up from the couch she was sitting on.
“Who lets you in here?” Jace asked, annoyed. The last time she saw her was in the Morgan mansion because Emerson Morgan invited him to discuss business. He was about to leave when Emerald arrived because the Morgan couple only wanted to pair him with Emerose, which he didn’t like.
“I came here early, so there’s no one here yet. I just invited myself in; I’m sorry if you didn’t like it.” Emerose replied, sounding apologetic.
“Next time, don’t come here uninvited. This is my workplace, and I didn’t want anyone to come and go here as they please. My workplace is mine alone.” Jace replied as he made his way to his chair and sat while Emerose walked closer to him until she stood before his table. “Sit down and tell me what you came for.”
“I didn’t mean to meddle with you and my little sister, but I want her to be happy, Jace.” Young Higginson raised a brow after hearing that. No matter where he looked at the eldest Morgan, he couldn’t see any concern for her little sister.
“This is the last time that I am going to tell you this; what the fuck are you doing here? Don’t beat around the bush, and just tell me your fucking concern.”Original content from NôvelDrama.Org.
“I-I’m so sorry,” Emerose said, startled. She didn’t know that Jace would be like that to her, ‘I am going to make you mine, Jace Higginson. I will not stop until I steal you from Emerald.’ she thought. Eldest Morgan took something out of her bag and handed it to Jace.
“I know your wedding anniversary is approaching, and I want my little sister to be happy with you. But I can’t help but show you that.” she continued while Jace started to look at the photos filled with Emerald’s images with Dr. Sanders. There’s also the part where they hug when the doctor agrees to look after Lucy when she leaves.
“What do you imply with this?” Jace asked angrily. His face hardened, as he balled his fist.
“Please, make Emerald happy. Don’t let her fall for someone. Maybe she feels like you are neglecting her. That’s why she looked for someone else to care for her.” Emerose answered with teary eyes.
Jace was so angry after hearing what Emerose said. Although he already knew that she was faking her concern, he still didn’t like the idea of what the pictures portrayed. Emerald looked worried while Dr. Sanders’ hand was on her back. ‘It doesn’t look intimate, but I still don’t like it. Is that how easy she is? She said she loves me and only me, and yet, she let another man hug her?’ young Higginson thought.
“Get out!” Jace shouted, so Emerose got up and left his office, looking fearful. But unknown to him, she was laughing internally, seeing how he reacted. She started running her head about the punishment that Jace would give to Emerald. For a year, the eldest Morgan thought about how she would separate the two. Following Emerald with all her moves and catching her off guard several times gives her enough proof to appear that she was having an affair.
Jace went home that day but didn’t confront Emerald. He already had a plan and would do it; he thought it would be sweeter if she didn’t see it coming.
The first anniversary.
Jace woke up and got dressed. He was humming since the day he waited had finally arrived. The other day, Kyle brought him the divorce papers that he will ask Emerald to sign. He took it out of his bag and put it in the bedside table drawer.
He had no plan to eat breakfast but wanted to give Emerald false hope. Before he left for work, Jace told his wife, “Prepare dinner. My brother and parents will be here. I am going to introduce them to you,” He thought the look on young Morgan’s face was priceless. She was speechless, and he didn’t hear anything from him until he left.
In his office, he was thinking about how Emerald would react when she saw Jack later. He couldn’t wait, and if he could only pull the time, he’d do it. There’s a fang of pain in his heart, but he ignores it. He decided to pull his revenge and wanted to see it through to the end.
Jace finished all his work and went home. Emerald’s smiling face welcomed him, which shocked him. Although he anticipated that the cold treatment he had received from her over the past two weeks would change because of what he had said earlier, he still didn’t expect her to be so welcoming. How much more, kissing him. And he likes it, making him turn on and end up making love to his wife.
He does it gently to savor the moment. He wants to make memories he can think of when he misses her after he throws her out of his life. Yes, it is painful for him. But he’s angry. He doesn’t like to betray Jack by continuously living with the woman who hurt him.
“I will make sure that you regret this, and I will never forgive you in this lifetime. I hate you, Jace Higginson, and I will bury my love for you at the bottom of the Mariana Trench so that I would have to die before I feel that way towards you again.”
Were Emerald’s words that left a deep cut in Jace’s heart. He knew what he had done and how unforgivable it was. But he was invested in his revenge, so he endured the pain of losing the only woman who caught his attention and whom he wanted to be with for the rest of his life.
