Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 10

Drops of hot water trickled down Everett's cheeks, leaving a rosy tint on his fair skin. His handsome face was stormy and intense as he suddenly stood, fixing Selena with a gaze that could cut glass. Fury brewed in his eyes, and the air around them was chilled to the bone. Selena, surprisingly bold, held his gaze without flinching. She stood tall, her neck stiff with defiance, and her resolve was unwavering despite the redness around her eyes.

"Everett, I'm done with your money. I'll draft a new divorce agreement. If you're man enough, just sign it. Let's get the divorce and go our separate ways. You'll live your life, and I'll live mine. We're done here!"

She slammed the water glass onto the table, ignoring Everett's thunderous expression, and strutted out with her head high, her heels clicking sharply on the floor.

Behind her, Everett's fist tightened, the veins on his hand standing out like ropes.

A few moments later, the office door swung open again. Without looking up, Everett sneered, "Selena, it's too late to have regrets now..."

But instead of Selena's usual meek apology, a voice full of amusement chimed in. "Dude, did I just see your feisty little wife throw water on you and demand a divorce? Is that really Selena, or am I still tipsy from last night?"

The man slapped his forehead in disbelief. Even though he had witnessed it all from outside the door, he still couldn't wrap his head around it.

Everett looked up coldly at the newcomer.

The man was strikingly good-looking. His eyes always had a touch of mischief and flirty affection. This was Jaime, Everett's childhood friend and the heir to the Landon Corporation.

Everett wiped his face with a tissue, crumpled it, and tossed it into the trash, scoffing dismissively. "She's just playing hard to get."

Jaime rubbed his chin, clearly skeptical. "I don't think so. She's never gone this far before."Property © NôvelDrama.Org.

Selena's past attempts at leaving were nothing more than silent retreats to her parents' house, only to return when she realized Everett wasn't coming after her. But this time, with divorce papers and lawyers, the drama had reached new heights, thoroughly entertaining him.

"You wouldn't understand. You're single. This is just her being flirty!" Everett stated flatly.

Jaime was stunned. Was that how women flirted these days?

As a seasoned player in the game of love, Jaime picked up on Selena's change. When she threw water on Everett, the look in her eyes was one of genuine anger.

Jaime started to object, "No, I think Selena's serious this time..."

Before he could finish, Everett's cold stare silenced him, making Jaime's heart skip a beat.

Jaime noted Everett's confident demeanor. He squinted, sensing that his friend's dull three-year marriage was about to encounter serious turbulence.

Everett caught Jaime staring at him. He smirked and frowned, saying, "If you've got something to say, say it. Otherwise, get out."

Jaime remained silent. Despite their

long friendship, Jaime held back any advice he might have given. If Everett ended up chasing after his wife in a dramatic turn of events, it would be his own doing!

Jaime straightened up and finally got to the point. "James wants to meet you at his private party next week. I've got the invite, but he's also invited your wife. With Selena's

divorce move going viral, he wants

you to clear things up."

Stable marriages were key for long-term business partnerships. In other words, they'd need to squash the negative buzz from this divorce drama to move forward with the partnership. Jaime left it at that, placed the invitation elegantly on the table, and exited the office with a sense of satisfaction.

Once the door closed, he couldn't help but chuckle. It looked like he'd have plenty of entertainment for a while!

...

How on earth did Selena fall for such a jerk? Besides his looks and physique, Everett was nothing!

Selena fumed, replaying the day's events and getting angrier by the second. She regretted not doing more than just splashing water on him; she should've smashed the cup on his smug face.

She was unable to calm down, so she hit the movies and watched "Gone Girl" three times in a row. By the end, she felt as calm as a still pond.

That evening, when Joy came home, she found Selena on the sofa, completely engrossed in her laptop, with her fingers flying over the keyboard.

Joy paused, surprised. She worked

at Bennett Corporation and had heard about Selena's showdown in Everett's office. She had rushed home to offer support but found Selena unexpectedly calm.

Was this the calm before the storm?

She put down her bag, walked over, and asked directly, "Selena, what are you doing?"

Selena didn't stop typing, "Starting a business!"

Joy's eyes widened in shock. "Wait, are you seriously leaving everything behind?"
