Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 1

In front of the massive floor-to-ceiling window, two figures were tangled up in a passionate embrace, the silhouette of the man moving rhythmically in the dim light.

In the darkness, his deep growls mingled with her soft moans, filling the room with an intoxicating intimacy.

Selena couldn't quite tell if it was the seductive lace dress she had slipped into or the fact that Everett had been away on business for so long that fueled the fire between them tonight. His embrace was unusually tender, almost as if he truly loved her.

Afterwards, he seemed in high spirits, even carrying her to the bathroom for a playful bath before they returned to bed. Unlike his usual routine, Everett didn't immediately leave. Sensing an opportunity, Selena turned to rest her head on his chest. As she absentmindedly traced circles with her fingertips, she spoke in a husky, post-coital voice, "Honey, we've been married three years now. Grandpa thinks it's about time we start thinking about a baby."

The gentle motion of his hand on her back came to a sudden halt. He looked down at her, and the rare softness in his dark eyes vanished, replaced by his usual coldness and a touch of sarcasm.

"Selena, do you really think you deserve that?"

Those few words shattered the cozy illusion that had enveloped the room, breaking the facade of peace that had lingered for three years. Everett pushed her away, slipped into his robe, tied the belt, and stood by the bed, looking down at her with a disdainful glare. "If you want to keep playing the role of my wife, you'd better behave and stop with those cheap tricks."

Selena's expression turned icy, disbelief evident in her voice. "Hoping for a child with my husband is a cheap trick?"

"I've let you get away with everything else, but let me make this clear one last time I'm not having a child. Just give up on that idea now." With that, he walked out, slamming the door behind him.

Selena lay still, staring at the ceiling until her eyes stung. She had expected this answer, but some part of her had still hoped. Even knowing it was humiliating, she had to ask. After a moment, she gathered some strength and picked up her phone. The screen lit up with a fresh headline from that morning.

Famed pianist Margot and her mysterious boyfriend were spotted at an OB-GYN clinic, and the next day she flaunted a massive diamond ring on social media. Rumors of a pregnancy and upcoming nuptials were swirling.

The accompanying photo showed the silhouette of the mysterious boyfriend. Selena recognized it instantly-it was Everett. She could recognize that silhouette anywhere. He wanted a child; he just didn't want one with her. His heart was with someone else.

The position of Everett's wife was

something she had fought for. After her parents died in an accident when she was ten, her uncle took her in, treating her like his own. Three years ago, when his business was failing, he was losing weight from stress, and her aunt was constantly hinting at their financial troubles. In desperation, Everett's grandfather Josh proposed marriage. A union with the Bennett family would solve everything. Selena agreed to her uncle's silent plea and got married.

But Everett was absent at the marriage registration. There was no wedding ceremony, and he didn't come home on their wedding night.

Later, she found out about

his true love, and that she had apparently interrupted their

engagement. Josh didn't approve of Margot and Everett's relationship and used the marriage to break them apart. Everyone thought Selena was after the Bennett

family's wealth and power. Only she knew that she truly wanted Everett.

Unfortunately, she couldn't warm his heart after three years, while Margot remained ever-present.

The following day, Selena, with her

composed demeanor, stepped out of the master bedroom. The housekeeper, Ava, approached her, looking troubled but handing her a small box. "Ma'am, Mr. Everett said you should... take this since precautions weren't taken last night. To avoid any unnecessary trouble."

The box of morning-after pill felt like a slap to the dignity she had fought to maintain. Ava seemed to notice Selena's slight wobble, but in the next second, Selena stood tall, took the pill without hesitation, and swallowed it in one fluid motion without a hint of doubt. ""Is that all?"

Once Ava left, Selena's posture crumbled. She glanced around the bedroom, seeing only expensive artwork on the walls. Thetr's not even one single wedding photo.

In that moment, she wondered, was there really any point in holding on to this marriage?
