Alpha Kilian was gasping for air, his face shrouded in darkness. He appeared even more pallid than before.
Shadow peered at the somber Alpha Dominic, catching a glimpse of his bloodied hand. Blood trickled down, staining the floor. “What… what are you doing?”
Her words barely left her lips before she glanced at the wall, searching for any signs of damage. If this Alpha Dominic had broken through the wall, how on earth was she going to pay for it?
She wanted to yell at him, to scold him for his actions. But in this moment, he seemed like a terrifying ghost. She didn’t dare to say anything.
She hadn’t done anything strange to his food. How could it have caused him to flee and harm himself?
And even if he did want to hurt himself, did he have to do it right in front of her house and destroy her property? This madman!
Alpha Kilian didn’t acknowledge her, already on the verge of leaving when his cell phone suddenly rang.
He glanced at the unknown number, his expression growing even darker. He immediately ended the call.
In that moment, he raised his gaze and locked eyes with Shadow. “Go inside.”
His voice was low, cold, and oppressive, with a hint of gloom.
Shadow was highly perceptive. Initially, she wanted to ask him what was happening, if he had offended someone. But as she analyzed his sullen eyes, she found Alpha Dominic incredibly frightening.
She slowly retreated into the room. With one hand clutching the doorknob, she contemplated whether or not to lock him outside.
Alpha Kilian didn’t notice her hesitation as his cell phone rang once again.
This time, it wasn’t an unknown number. It displayed the name “Frank.”
He didn’t hesitate to answer the call now. “What does he want from me now?”
On the other end of the line, Frank spoke with respect. “He’s asking you to bring his daughter-in-law to his place for dinner tonight.”
Alpha Kilian coughed and chuckled. “Don’t bother with his calls in the future anymore.”Content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
Frank nodded on the other end. “Alright. He isn’t my boss and doesn’t pay my salary, after all.”
Alpha Kilian pocketed his phone and rubbed the space between his brows. Obviously, he didn’t have a good relationship with his father, and now it seemed that his father was more interested in his wife than in him.
He sighed and turned around, only to find Shadow still standing by the door, contemplating whether or not to close it.
His eyebrows raised. “Eavesdropping on my call?”
What? Shadow eavesdropping on him?
“Of course not!” Shadow shook her head rapidly.
Shadow realized she had made a grave mistake by coming outside to check on him. It would have been better not to provoke this Alpha Dominic.
“Then why are you still standing here?” Alpha Kilian raised his eyebrows and took a step forward, towering over her. A mischievous expression appeared on his face, his lips curling into a smirk. “Or have you finally come to your senses and are willing to abandon my crippled cousin to follow me?”
Upon hearing this, Shadow turned around and closed the door without hesitation.
Alpha Kilian didn’t flinch when he found himself heartlessly locked out.
Initially, he had planned to stay a few more days to find the person he had been chasing. He had been monitoring everyone’s movements through the apartment window. However, he couldn’t find the person. It was as if they had disappeared.
Since the person he was searching for wasn’t here, there was no need for him to stay in this place any longer.
Besides, even though his new wife wasn’t a beauty, she was undoubtedly intelligent and kind. She would never do anything to interfere with him. He might as well give her some peace during this time.
At the entrance of the alley, Alpha Kilian immediately spotted Frank.
Frank approached, his expression resolute but tinged with concern. “Boss, how are you feeling?”
As Frank laid his eyes on Alpha Kilian, he hurriedly walked over. His resolute expression carried a trace of worry. “Boss, how are you feeling?”
As he spoke, Frank reached out to steady him, but Alpha Kilian waved him off. “I’m fine.”
Frank opened the car door, and Alpha Kilian sat inside. Leaning back into the seat, he spoke emotionlessly, “Has he been calling you these past few days?”
“Yes.” Frank was well aware of whom he was referring to, nodding in confirmation. “Mr. Lances said that you blocked his number. He tried calling you from a different number, but you still didn’t answer. So the only option he had left was to call me.”
“Hmm.” This was not the first time his father had done this.
“Just before you arrived, Mr. Lances called and said that if you didn’t bring Madam to his place for dinner, he would call her directly.”
Oh, he wanted to play this game now? His dear old dad wanted to summon Shadow, that woman, back to the Lances residence for dinner?
Interesting!
Frank waited expectantly for his response, thinking something significant would occur. To his surprise, the man seated in the back simply said, “Up to him.”
He turned to gaze out of the window. It appeared that his wife was not going to have a pleasant evening.
…
Shadow finished her meal upon returning to her room. It was fortunate that Alpha Dominic had left her place. Otherwise, with his notorious temperament, she feared he would’ve done something dreadful.
As she prepared to wash the dishes, her cell phone began to ring. It was an unknown number.
She ignored it. Nowadays, many people made pointless calls.
However, her phone continued to ring, each time displaying the same number. It couldn’t possibly be a prank call.
“Hello, this is Shadow. Who is this?”
“I’m Alpha Kilian’s father, Alpha George Lances.”
