Chapter 2209
Chapter 2209
He remembered his first meeting with Isabel. She was sitting all by herself on the floor, in the middle of nowhere. Her vulnerable expression only made her more endearing. So, he managed to get her to go to his place and installed her in his home.
He fell for her and paid careful attention to all her needs. It did not take long before Isabel caught feelings for him as well. The two of them got together in no time.
Their days were plain and ordinary, but also very fulfilling, that was until he met Clarice.
With the help of his father, his power struggle with Roland had reached a tipping point. It was at that opportune moment when Clarice’s father saw something in Roland and planned to wed his daughter Clarice to him to join up their families, which was a cause for alarm for Decker. He stressed over it for an entire night before approaching Clarice himself the very next day.
Clarice quickly caught feelings for him as well. Furthermore, Roland had been foolish enough to reject the Houston's proposal, which made it easy for Decker to swoop in and take her hand.
The only hiccup in his plans was Isabel's sudden intrusion during the day of the engagement ceremony. When she caused a scene and got herself thrown out, Decker had to admit that it made his heart ache, but he still toughed
through it and resisted the urge to help her then. It was only after the ceremony had come to a close and all the guests had dispersed that he found the time to head home.
He wanted to impose his authority on her so she would not rebel against him again in the future. Without sparing the time to clarify the situation, he struck her across the face to establish his position of power. He thought this would make her more cautious going forward.
His plans ended up backfiring on him. The next time he went home, she was already gone. There was no trace of her in all of Southboro...
He initially assumed that Isabel was just lashing out and would return eventually. To his surprise, Isabel had completely abandoned her last trace of affection for him that very fateful night.
Naturally, he had never expected that she had been the daughter of the richest family in the region back then. If he knew, he never would have chosen Clarice over her.
Ultimately, it was his greed and foolishness that caused everything to happen. He supposed this was karma coming back at him.
Still, it was no big deal. Before he was brought into Rockwell Corporation, he was just a b*stard child who had nothing to his name, so it was back to square one.
In a way, he considered this a new beginning to life as he knew it.
With a deep and solemn sigh, he stood up and walked out of the conference room.
"Is he not going to jail?"
Inside Roland's office, Isabel was sharing an intimate hug with Roland. She asked while still in the middle of their tight embrace.
Roland remarked, "I figured there's no point putting him in jail since he's going to be out in three years at most. We might as well get something substantial for it."
Isabel agreed when she thought about it. "That's true.”
Now that Decker had no more shares in Rockwell Corporation, he no longer had any foothold and was essentially done. “Also, he promised me that we'd never see him in Southboro or Westchester again.”
Isabel was taken aback by this.
Roland looked at her with a warm, proud smile underneath his eyes.
Isabel chuckled and playfully pinched his cheeks. "I didn’t expect this from you."
He sure was cautious and calculating.
There was no cause for him to be concerned, however.
Isabel had not been in contact with Decker in the five years since their break up. Besides, even if she were to fall for another man, it would not be her ex.
Roland grinned and let her pinch his cheeks all she wanted. Then, he put his arms around her and kissed her for what seemed like forever.
Still holding her tightly in his arms, he propped his chin on her shoulder and said in a low voice, "Isabel, | want to marry you.”
Isabel perked up and asked smilingly, "Are you proposing to me?"
"No."
Isabel was speechless.
She playfully shoved him away.
Roland held on to her so she could not manage to shove him away.
He explained thoughtfully, "| wouldn't propose like this. I'm just telling you that | plan to marry you." Isabel felt something stir in her chest, she grinned happily.
Meanwhile, a time-piece drama that Isabel had been signed on a while ago finally began its first shoot.
There were a couple of shooting locations, some of which included a faraway mountainous region boasting wonderful and otherworldly views. They also went to the plains as well as a desert.
Isabel was aware that Roland now had a lot of things on his plate at Rockwell Corporation so she did not trouble Roland with sending her off to work.
They spent two days practically glued to each other. After that, she took her luggage and went to the filming outposts with the film crew.
Everyone in the crew, including the director known for having a strict personality was abnormally polite to her. It must have something to do with them knowing about her true identity now. Despite that, Isabel was someone who prided herself on being self-aware, so she would notice when her performance was off or if she was unable to bring out the essence of the characters she was playing. Without needing anyone to ask, she would propose reshooting the scenes that she felt were lackluster. NôvelDrama.Org content rights.
