Chapter 8
I decide to look for my briefcase so I can get out of here as fast as possible. After a few seconds I find it, go towards the door, take a deep breath and repeat to myself:
“Come on Sky, just ignore that he is there and he will stare at you with that sexy smile”
! I whimper. I shouldn’t be thinking or even saying these things. But I take another deep breath and leave. He’s still there in the same place I left him as if he’s waiting for me to return. His arms are still crossed and he stares at me. What can I do? Maybe stare back? I don’t know, but I end up opting for the second option that my thought proposed. He then asks:
“Why are you angry?”
“I’m not angry!”
“Yes you are!”
“No, I’m not!”
I reply looking steadily into his eyes, I know it’s clear in my tone of voice that I am angry, yes, but at least he doesn’t insist on it. I prepare myself to ask permission to pass him at the door, but he says:
“What are you doing today?”
I turn around in surprise at what he just asked.
“Huh?”
He knows I heard him right, so he just waits for an answer. I say:
“I’m going home.”
“Are you staying home on a Friday night?”
I look at him as if it’s obvious. I complete:
“I usually go out with Matt on Fridays, so I think I’ll go home and watch a movie and…”
He interrupts me:
“You can’t do that.”
I end up laughing even though I don’t want to do that, he sounds like me when I first met him. Then I say:
“Oh, okay, so what do you suggest?”
He walks over and says:
“Maybe go out with me?”
…
Why the hell does this boy always convince me to do crazy things like this? It’s five o’clock in the afternoon and we’re in Matt’s car going to who knows where.
…
Yan parks the car and as soon as we get out I realize that we are near a track where I see several skateboarders. He turns around and goes to the trunk and pulls out a skateboard. I stare at him and he says with a laugh:
“I bet you’ve never been here!”
Well, he knows how to surprise, I can’t deny. He asks me to follow him to the place where his friends are. I then decide to ask him:
“Wouldn’t it have been better to bring Kara?”
He looks at me at the same moment and says:
“Who?”
I’m not surprised that he doesn’t even remember the name of the blonde stuck-up girl who was with him that afternoon. I decide to ignore all that and say:
“Nothing, forget it.”
He doesn’t insist on the subject and we move on until we meet up with Max and Kyle, whom I met at my birthday party, and one more girl. Yan quickly goes towards her giving her a long hug, while he spins her around in the air and kisses her cheek several times saying that he missed her.
This makes me a little uneasy and makes me look down at my feet for a while. Then he introduces me to her:
“Shane, this is Sky.”
She looks at me the same way I looked at her second before, greets me, and then looks at Yan and says:
“You didn’t tell me you were dating a pretty girl.”
He laughs upon hearing what she said and then speaks:© NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.
“She’s not my girlfriend.”
He looks at me and then looking a little unfunny now, says:
“She is Matt’s girlfriend.”
She looks relieved and I can swear she is in love with him.
…
They go to the skate park and I stand in a corner and watch. Yan is good at this. All of them. He even waves after a while to me and I just smile back.
They are so comfortable here while I am inwardly wondering what I am doing here. I think I want to go home. When I raise my eyes again, Yan is coming towards me and he has such an amused smile that it makes you want to smile back. But I guess it’s a little late to hide how I feel. He asks:
“What is it?”
“Nothing.”
“What do you mean nothing? You don’t seem to be enjoying yourself.”
I try to convince him otherwise, but he is already pulling me by the arm and saying he is going to show me something. Why do I think it won’t be something I usually do?
I stand up, and he tells me:
“You go skateboarding.”
I stop where I am and say:
“No, I’m not going.”
“Why not? Have you seen my motor skills?”
He laughs and says:
“No.”
I cross my arms and say:
“Then I think I’d better stay here where I was.”
He faces the skateboard on the ground and says:
“Nah, Sky. I’ll help you.”
I got you. I confess that I like to hear that. And it pisses me off. He comes up to me and holds my hand, and after he does, I realize that we don’t touch like this very often.
And it’s so nice that when he lets go of me to get my reaction, I’m still looking at my hand where he held it. I clear my throat to disguise it and say:
“It’s okay.”
He smiles satisfied. As I approach, he makes me stand in front of him, but crosses his arms and looks me up and down with his eyebrows drawn together as if he doesn’t like what he sees.
But he has such a funny face while doing this, it makes me question laughing:
“What?”
He puts a hand to his lips and looks thoughtful. Then he says:
“This outfit is not ideal.”
I think it’s funny what he says. But of course it’s not ideal. I was at work, I’m wearing skinny jeans, sneakers, and a white linen shirt. That’s why I’m feeling so weird here, especially when I’m around Shane and her black clothes, her hair with purple tips and that bunch of bracelets on her arms.
Almost everyone here is dressed like that, except me. So I throw off my sneakers and kick them off my feet into a corner. Yan laughs and seems to approve. I continue, crouch down and pull my pants down to my heels, stand up and start to unbutton my shirt.
I see him blink several times as he watches me do this. I end up laughing. When I finish he sees that I am wearing a black tank top and I stand in front of him and he still looks at me and says:
“Go ahead, go ahead!”
I look at him and say:
“Stop being so idiot Yan.”
He laughs as I approach and he holds my arm as I try to put my foot on the skateboard. When he holds my waist so I can put my other foot on it, I can tell right away that this was not a good idea.
Wow! When you said you had no motor skills, I was a little doubtful. I end up laughing as I am practically tearing Yan’s arm off, while he is trying to get me to move from where I got on the skateboard.
At least we are the fun here. Kyle is laughing his ass off as he says that I am a natural. Shane is not finding this all that funny. I decide to ignore them and a few minutes later I’m doing well on Yan and with one foot on the ground, I take a few steps. They are right, from the outside this must be really fun.
After a while Yan says:
“If you really want to feel the adrenaline, do this, put your two feet on the skateboard.”
“But I’m going to fall…”
” You won’t, trust me.”
So I do, I get on the skateboard and feel him put his foot right on and as he makes us gain speed, he holds my waist and I grab his hands.
“It’s fun!”
He says:
“Didn’t I tell you?”
But even the fact that I’m doing something so far away from my reality doesn’t make me forget that he is very close to me, to my body.
And the warmth his hands are sending me makes me close my eyes for a second and start breathing differently. And that’s when I realize that maybe it’s not only me who is like this. I literally feel it close to my back. This closeness is exciting and on his body it is very obvious.
I just wish I didn’t find the fact that it makes him feel like that is so satisfying to me. He then stops the skateboard and I’m not sure if he knows that I noticed what happened, but he looks a little embarrassed and says:
“Well, that’s it.”
I just smile. He says he’ll be right back and I don’t question it. He then meets up with Shane just ahead, says something in her ear who looks in my direction and then disguises herself.
She hugs him and they walk out of my field of vision and I catch myself hating what I just saw.
