Chapter 13: This is a very dangerous thing to do.
Severo withdrew his eyes and walked over to the floor-to-ceiling windows of the living room. He held the phone to his ear again; his broad figure seemed especially tall in the light.
Allyce pursed her lips and turned towards the bedroom.
When she came out of the bathroom, she realised that Severo was not in the room. She went to the bedroom door and peeked out quietly to see that he was still on the phone.
Suddenly, he remembered that there was also a bed in the next room, so he walked quietly to the door and closed it behind him.
If I asked her tomorrow, she might say that she had got used to living alone and had forgotten that he was there too, she decided happily.
After closing the door, he soon fell asleep.
The next morning, Allyce woke up to the ringing of her mobile phone.
Confused, she looked at the words flashing on the screen: Husband.
Husband?
What is this …?
Allyce rejects the call and rolls over to get some more sleep when her phone rings again.
Sitting with her hand in her hair, Allyce picked up the phone and immediately blurted out, “Who are you? This better be a life or death situation or I’ll kill you”.
There was a long silence on the other end of the line and Allyce was about to hang up when she heard a familiar but unfamiliar voice.
The voice was like flowing water, there was not a hint of anger in it. Somehow, this calm tone sent a shiver through Allyce’s body.
“You’re not up yet?”
Allyce couldn’t help but pull her hair harder, making her scalp ache even more. She gritted her teeth and barely choked out two words: “I’m awake.
It was Severo. I had forgotten that I had got her marriage certificate with him yesterday.
Severo’s voice was pleasant even on the phone. The delivery man is at the door, go get him”.
“Huh?” Allyce was puzzled, “Did you order anything?”
“Go and open the door. Don’t keep him waiting.
With that, he hung up the phone.
Allyce looked at the time on the phone; it was noon. I can’t believe I’ve been asleep for so long.
Before Allyce had time to think more about it, the doorbell rang. It seemed she had actually ordered a takeaway.
Allyce quickly changed her clothes and hurried to open the door.
When she opened the door, she was startled by the tall man in a suit in front of her,” she said. So you’re actually a delivery man?”
But who would wear an expensive suit to deliver food?
Severo’s eyes strayed to his messy hair, his expression clearly indicating that he had figured things out. allyce looked at him awkwardly, “Ha! What’s wrong with you? I was awake earlier but I felt too tired so I went back to sleep …”
“Agreed”.
“…”
The lie was exposed on the spot. allyce felt very embarrassed, but then she recovered her expression, pretended to be calm and let Severo in.
Wait, she didn’t just lie to Severo, she was rude to him too …
“Come on, eat!” Severo finished ordering the takeaway and turned to look at her.
Allyce ran her fingers through her hair impatiently, regretting once again her impulse to marry him.
“You know everyone has their little habits. I woke up a bit angry”.
Allyce explained, rather bluntly, that she did not like others to discover certain habits of hers. She was used to living alone and feared that people would suddenly find out about her life.
It was very dangerous for her to have other people meddling in her life.
“Yes, I remember.
“Do you remember?”
“I have brought you the meat.
Looking at Allyce, he added: “Seeing the way you ate last night, I figured you liked meat.
She had to admit that he had got it right. He liked beef very much. He liked beef cooked every way except pan-fried steak.
So when he said he remembered, he meant remembering his habits.
I didn’t expect him to be interested in … so attentive. No, why was I confused!© NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.
Just because a man had been casually kind to her? Her heart should not be touched by that.
Allyce quickly snapped out of her confusion and said coldly, “You guessed wrong. I was very hungry last night.
