Chapter 19
All this time, their parents had been keeping Roseline away from the public. Naturally, Sophia was not pleased seeing and hearing people saying good things about Rose at all. She wanted to disgrace her, but could not think of anything to say. All she could do was hold Rose paid no attention to Sophia and kept searching for the best piece of jewelry. Shortly, she picked a set of diamond ones. It was of superb quality and impeccable design.
her anger and compose herself the best she could.
"What do you think? Do you like them?"
The section manager immediately commented with an approving smile, "You do have excellent taste. There are only two sets of the same jewelry in the world. One is in possession of the wealthy Louis family, and this is the other one."
On hearing this, anger vanished from Sophia's face. Her eyes shone with desire. The moment she collected the diamonds from Rose and it got into her hands she didn't want to let go.
Rose had a pleased expression on her face. 'You thought you could just take my things so easily? I'm not what I used to be anymore.'
Just as Sophia was still checking out the diamond jewelry in her hand, a voice of surprise called both of them.
"Sophia, Roseline, is that you? What are you girls doing here?"
"Mum." When Sophia heard the voice she turned around and greeted her mother with a warm smile and a hug, which pleased Beatrice a lot. A great show of loving mother and daughter.
Rose also turned around and quietly watched the loving scene of both mother and daughter. She couldn't help but sneer inside.
In her past life, when she used to see this, which was often, it made her jealous and upset, wondering why she could not have the same love from her mother. It was the main reason she avoided showing up in public and just kept herself to herself in the past. And thanks to the rumors spread by the Gray, people had a false idea that the younger daughter was stunning looking and talented while the older one, ugly, mean, and bad-tempered.
Now, in this life, she would get revenge, and the first step was to correct the rumors and the wrong impressions people had of her.
One of the ladies who had followed behind Beatrice noticed Roseline. She thought that Rose's face looked similar and familiar to someone she knew years ago. The lady couldn't help but question out of curiosity, "Who is this here, Mrs. Gray?"
In a black dress, with her long black hair falling down her back, unlike most other girls people were used to, her clean and innocent face stood out in the crowd, like a cool summer breeze, bringing a sense of freshness.
"This is..." Beatrice's face froze for a second before she put on her smiley look. "This is my older daughter."
"Older daughter? Wait, don't tell me this is Ruby's daughter? She looks so much like her mother. Besides, I thought she was studying abroad?" The lady asked again, making the other ladies take a proper look at Rose's face and realize that she indeed looked like Ruby. Of course, there was no one in California who didn't know Ruby Walker.
Beatrice clenched her fist when she heard the name of Ruby being mentioned, but instantly put on a smile on her face. "That's right. Actually, she just arrived back a few days ago. She's a bit shy, doesn't talk much, and likes staying home. You know, I don't want to force her to do things she doesn't want to. So ver push her to go out."
At the same time, she turned to look at Sophia and gave her a questioning look, wondering what the hell they were doing here. "What's going on? Why are you guys here? Did you finally get Rose to come out of her room?" Sophia rolled her eyes, implying it wasn't her fault, and she had no idea.
Rose lifted her eyebrow, knowing what was transpiring between mother and daughter. However, she took her time, since she wasn't in a hurry to explain anything. She just simply smiled silently.
With the expected crowd here, this would be a great chance for her to impress and change how people thought of her.
"You are a lucky girl to have a great mother like Mrs. Gray." One of the ladies said to Roseline.
"Indeed. Also, Mr. Gray is such a lucky man to have you as his wife." another lady continued. Beatrice smiled, loving the sweet words from the ladies.
Seeing the perfect time to make her
move, Rose reacted quickly and wittily. She pointed to the diamond jewelry on the table and said, "Mother, Sophia loves this set. helped pick them. What do you think? They are pretty, right? She asked with an innocent look.
Rose was plotting to go the indirect way instead of justifying herself directly.
It put a slight frown on Beatrice's face. First of all, Rose had never called her 'mother, but step-mother' so why is she addressing her now as 'mother' in public. Leaving that aside, she turned to Sophia with a confused look. "But Sophia, you are too young for this, and we shouldn't waste money."
Rose pursed her lips slightly, then smiled and said, "Mother, doesn't everyone love to look pretty? It's not like we can't afford it anyway. Most importantly, Sophia loves them."
Beatrice was more puzzled and started to grow suspicious, when she heard Rose addressing her as mother again. 'She's never called me mother before since she arrived, Why now?'Content bel0ngs to Nôvel(D)r/a/ma.Org.
On the other hand, Rose was enjoying her own comeback. Just take a look, aren't I a generous, loving sister that cares a lot about her younger sister?' she thought while smiling to herself in her mind.
Mrs. Phillip, who was the woman to first notice Rose when they saw both girls, was impressed at Rose. "What a great girl! You're so considerate and loving." Rose blushed and smiled, accepting her praise with modesty.
